Wet in more ways than one

The cloudless sky on the drive upto Blackpool for the 9th leg of the GUKPT was the most pleasant part of the day. 280+ runners was a top turnout.

Only got involved it 2 real pots, once when holding QQ on a 343 board I continuation bet only to get re-raised. If you've got a 3 good luck so I ship. Chap calls "'cause he has the odds" with J4! Fuck me the standard on maths teaching must be shite where you went to school son.

Second pot is a 5 way limp with 33. 873 board with two diamonds. A pot sized bet brings one caller from the table calling station. 2 of clubs on the turn, I'm pretty sure he has a flush draw or a pair so I put in a 70% of my remaining stack and an over the pot sized bet to shift him off his draw. So obviously he calls! Ad comes on the river. I ship in the remaining 2k but I know I'm beaten even before he flips over 7d5d. More maths lessons required.

I leave the casino to find horizontal rain to top off a great day.

Broadway blow-up

Played the supersat last week for the £1k main event running this week. Now I have a pretty good track record in "supersating" and with no rebuys and just an add-on I was feeling really chipper then we got down to the last 25 with 17 seats up for grabs and I'm sitting on average chips.

It's now level 12 and since level 8 average chips has been no more than 10 BB's, at least 5 blokes have less than 4BB's.

So why when the chip monster to my immediate right limps the SB to my BB do I push all-in with A9? He snaps with AQ and I'm out in 21st! What a cock!!!!

Then I have a 40 min drive home to dwell on it. Great.

My only defence is that it's 2am in the morning and I just don't do the early hours well at all. My body clock operates on a different plain and it's the number one reason I don't normally enter events that start after 7:00pm as I puts me at a huge disadvantage.

So I've decided not to play the ME after all as this too starts day 1 at 7:00pm and I can think of more constructive ways to blowing a grand. So I'll head to DTD for a civilised 2:00pm start on Saturday.

Me and my boy..

Well after 18 long years my son Harvey can step into the casino! So where do we go on our inaugural father and son poker game. Walsall!

The £30 triple chance gets 69 runners and looks like a holding pen for the Jeremy Kyle show! To add a little spice Harvey get drawn next to me on table 3. Sit back and learn.....

I take all my 6k chips right away as I've seen the shite these lads play with and am soon hovering around the 20k mark after a nice run of cards and some funny play. One Chinese chap calls my 3bet with 82 off and now thinks he's ahead on an 8 high board. He's all in for 4k, I mop up with TT. I runner runner a straight to crack aces and then next hand get AA and "squeeze" 5 callers, as no-one believes me I get 2 customers both all-in for another 5k. Happy days.

Harvey can't hit a barn door with a shot gun and busts when we get down to 4 tables.

Shortly after I'm hovering for the chip lead and get tangled in a raise re-raise all in call with QQ in the bb only for the button (and only player with more chips than me) to wake up with KK. Another K on the river rubs it in. This chap must have around 40% of the chips in play at this point so I hope he went on to win.

Lots of fun even if my tournament buy ins have now doubled, but I do get a chauffeur!

EPT Tales

Well first up what an event. The largest UK poker event (700+) ever was superbly ran at the Hilton Metropole, if a little cramped to get so many people involved.

All the good and the great were there.....and me.

Day 1b for me. The 30,000 starting stack is an absolute joy and I'm never surprised to see the usual block of 20 something's playing a VP of 35% putting on all the moves....before the end of the 1st level. Hang on fella's no-one gets paid until day 3 here. Or did you miss that? We had our 1st all-in after 23 mins of play on our table and 5 people had busted after level 1!

I've said it few times about EPT events.

- The 1st raise means nothing
- The 3Bet means less
- The 4bet is when to get concerned

Some young Romanian chap "squeezed" everytime he was in the blinds. He went after 3 hours. Shame as his girlfriend had the best pair of tits I've seen in a long time.

So what happend to me?

The 1st 2 levels I did not win 1 pot. The only pair I saw were 4's and the only A, A3off. I 4Bet the 4's (look I've not played a had in anger) and the Romanian shove all-in over the top.

So level 3 and I'm down to 2oK.

I get the worse run of cards I've had in a long long while all day and play them poorly, so I'm delighted to double up in the 5th level when I raise 5x the BB in early position (everyone was doing it) with AA and get 3 callers! AKT flop see it all go in with Freddie Frenchy's KT. So upto around 40K with an hour to go.

Nothing changes much so I head into day 2 with 38K and an average of 70k.

Day two seats me with a chipped up Devilfish and Ivan Demidov. Great. The Fish raises the 1st 10 hands of the day uncontested, love it.

90 mins later I get the fist card above a J. AKs. I 3bet Gino Italian next to me and we get it allin which is fine with me. He has KK. A rag shit flop and I'm hear talking to you.

Without doubt the EPT's are my favorite events and by far the toughest so I'll be picking out the nice places on their calender for sure...of which the next stop in Warsaw is not....

Big Week? .....my arse...

Jerry's 30 Mtt's this week.

Cashes?

None!

Jackie's played 12 (PLOHiLo)

Cashes?

None!

Blah, blah, blah

Well high hopes and all that were dashed early in the FTOPS events. I know they have big fields but with deepstacks I'd back JJ (Jerry and Jackie) to run deep. Not a sniff.

Jackie payed over 10,000 0.5/1 PLOHILo cash hands and was doing OK until he hit a 1k hand downswing and ended the week -$102. He plays super tight which I don;t like all that much. Must work to loosen him up a bit. The biggest problem is getting games to play in, at this level even of Full Tilt there rare.

Ahhhhhhhh

Jerry and his brothers

First up Jerry's been piss poor in his MTT run this week, not cashing in any NLH FTOPS events, and not getting even close. I've taken an old saying to heart "if in doubt raise", given Jerry is often in doubt I've changed his profile to be more aggressive, cut down the number of calls and increased the amount of 3betting. We'll see.

Second up he's got some new additions to his family. You may remember "Jimmy", a limit playing little tosser who was far too much trouble for his own good. Well enter "Jackie". Jackie is also a limit monkey but claims to be grown-up and no hassle to anyone. You just plug him in, let him go and count your cash. Right! After 4k hands at 50c/$1 we're down $210. Don't want to jump down the little fellas neck yet so I''ll be patient and let it ride.

The final addition to the family is "Joey". Joey is a PLO/PLOHiLo expert. Now Joey only arrived this morning so I'm letting him settle in before turning him loose.

So there you have it a full family of "expert" children!

Get set for a big week......
